145 CEO’s of major American corporations sent a letter to the Senate Thursday urging them to “[pass] a bill to require background checks on all gun sales and a strong Red Flag law that would allow courts to issue life-saving extreme risk protection orders.”
“Red Flag” laws allow police or family members to petition for the temporary removal of firearms from persons who may be a danger to themselves or others.
The letter identifies gun violence as “a public health crisis that demands urgent action.”
The CEO’s that signed on are primarily from technology and the start-up sphere including Brian Chesky of Airbnb, Logan Green and John Zimmer of Lyft, Steve Huffman of Reddit, Dara Khosrowshahi of Uber and Jeremy Stoppelman of Yelp.
After last month’s shootings in Ohio and Texas, President Donald Trump endorsed Red Flag laws.
