The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.
Legal Hand, operated by the Center for Court Innovation, is a network of storefront centres that train community volunteers to provide free legal information, assistance, and referrals to people with civil legal problems. The program seeks to solve issues in areas like housing, public benefits, employment, family law and immigration before they become emergencies that must be litigated in court. Currently, Legal Hand operates in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Although this position is primarily based out of our Brownsville office, it will require travelling to other Legal Hand sites throughout New York City.
Legal Hand is seeking an Attorney. Reporting to the Director of Legal Hand, the Attorney will oversee volunteer training, site administration and outreach to community partners to build a strong network for reaching clients and providing services. The Attorney must also be able to create a warm and welcoming environment for volunteers and visitors to the office.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a JD and a minimum of 2 years in a related area. Excellent written and interpersonal skills are a must. Candidate should be comfortable supervising, public speaking and developing training curriculums. Candidate must be skilled communicator able to work in a multi-disciplinary setting and maintain strong relationships with multiple organizations both onsite and in the community.
Compensation: Salary range is competitive and is commensurate with experience.
