Salary: $35,136 to $55,145 per year

Responsibilities

These positions are located within the Department of the Interior, Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA), located in Sacramento, CA and Albuquerque, NM. The incumbent will perform clerical and legal administrative support functions for the office.

At the full performance level (GS-07) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Receive and transfer phone calls, make copies, scan documents, organize electronic files, prepare and send faxes and emails; prepare time and attendance records.
  2. Review outgoing correspondence and other documents for grammatical and spelling errors.
  3. Coordinate travel arrangements and prepare travel vouchers and authorizations.
  4. Arrange facilities for conferences and hearings and prepare presentation material or background documentation.
  5. Operate recording equipment and assist the Judge at hearings.
  6. Review probate case material to ensure it is current and complete; maintain the records from initial filing to completion and search various systems of record when additional information is required.
  7. Answer basic and routine questions and inquiries from interested parties as well as brief witnesses or heirs regarding adjudicatory procedures and policies.

The Office of the Secretary has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for situational telework with supervisor approval.



Salary Information
Sacramento, CA: GS-05: $38,054-$49,473; GS-06: $42,419-$55,145 per annum.
Albuquerque, NM: GS-05: $35,136-$45,679; GS-06: $39,166-$50,917 per annum.
First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.
This vacancy is also announced as OS-6080-20-NN-094(MP) for those applicants who wish to apply and be considered under Merit Promotion procedures.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying.

GS-05
A. Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-05, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: performing general clerical tasks in an office setting such as maintaining a filing system, drafting correspondence, or routing incoming calls and mail.
OR
B. Education: Four full years (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) beyond high school at an accredited institution. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
OR
C. Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: A combination of education and specialized experience that totals 100% of the requirement for the GS-5 grade level. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

NOTE: If qualifying with education, you must submit your transcripts to show that you meet this requirement. This information must be received by the closing date of the announcement. Failure to provide this information will result in your receiving an "INELIGIBLE" rating.

GS-06
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-06, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) performing general clerical tasks in an office setting such as maintaining a filing system, drafting correspondence, or routing incoming calls and mail; and 2) reviewing documents for spelling, grammatical, or content errors.

NOTE: Applicants to grade GS-06 must meet both specialized experience statements defined above.
