Attorney on Marketing and Regulatory legal team providing advice and counsel on: (1) compliance with global environmental laws and regulations applicable to our business, including, for example, those governing disposal of products, take-back programs and packaging restrictions; (2) market-by-market requirements for the support of “green” claims and environmental/sustainability representations and positioning for products and Brands; (3) governance and reporting in relation to environmental issues, including Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (“ESG”) issues. Attorney will work closely with Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability, Packaging, R&D and Legal personnel.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
•Advise on compliance with state and federal environmental law issues applicable to our products and our business, e.g. regulations applicable to the sourcing, formulation, packaging, shipping, distribution and disposal of products.
•Advise on technical and legal requirements to support “green” claims and environmental/sustainable representations and positioning for products and Brands; work with cross-functional colleagues to develop market appropriate, claim-specific support and documentation for such claims.
•Support Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability in environmental/sustainability goal setting and strategy, the implementation of such strategy, and related ESG issues.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Minimum Education: J.D., B.S. or B.A.
Minimum Experience: Overall, 8+ years experience as an attorney, at least 2-3 years of experience at a consumer packaged goods company preferred—cosmetics or related industry experience preferred; general knowledge of relevant state and federal environmental laws (including but not limited to those related to the manufacture, distribution and disposal of our products); significant experience advising on market-by-market requirements for the support of “green” claims in North and South America, Europe, Asia and other regions; significant experience working with technical teams to develop and document support for such claims; experience navigating and advising on ESG issues (including but not limited to required reporting); good written and oral communication skills; ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, adapt to changing conditions and execute in a complex matrixed environment.
